The Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, inaugurated the Jubail 3A IWP.

His Excellency the Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Saudi Water Partnership Company Engineer. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli, inaugurated the Jubail 3A Independent Water Project at the plant’s site in Jubail. It is considered one of the biggest water desalination projects around the world.

The water sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia receives constant attention from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, the Crown Prince, and Prime Minister. His Excellency Eng. Al-Fadhli explained that these projects come to achieve the objectives and plans of the National Water Strategy to increase private sector participation in water production projects, supplying drinking water to all regions in the Kingdom.

His Excellency the Minister elaborated that the project would work directly to meet the demand in Riyadh and Qassim regions, as well as it aims to develop this vital sector and improve the quality of services. In addition, increase the efficiency of spending, benefit from the expertise of the private sector in construction, operation, and management, as well as increase its contribution to the sector’s development, which is one of the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. Engineer Khalid Al-Quraishi, the CEO of Saudi Water Partnership Company, explained that the plant is designed to produce 600,000 cubic meters per day. Also, it is the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) desalination in the Eastern.

Al-Quraishi also highlighted the water purchase agreement has been signed at the lowest purchase tariff in the world, 1.54 Riyal per cubic meter. The project was implemented by a consortium consisting of ACWA Power, Gulf Investment Corporation, and Al Bawani Water and Electricity Company. Through a challenging 30 months journey to operate the plant. Additionally, using green 45.5 megawatts of energy produced in-house through a solar PV system to reduce carbon emissions and grid electricity consumption to consume is 2.8 kilowatts per cubic meter.

SWPC CEO illustrated the concerted efforts of the success partners in the water sector, led by the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, and the cooperation of all public and private partners to enhance and sustain water sources, secure them in reliable quantities and high quality, and raise environmental damage.
